NZ traffic issues/suggestions

Given the increase in traffic in New Zealand, and in particular Auckland, I have a few suggestions on how you can easily alleviate traffic flow.

Enforce the keep left rule in a similar manner to Australia. i.e. signage everywhere on motorways & highways that there will be a minimum $150 fine if you do not keep left, unless passing. Ditto people travelling in the outside lane at 60-80km/hr when the speed limit is 100 km/hr. This frustrates drivers no end and does not help to ensure calm traffic and calm drivers.

ALL trucks should be in the left hand lane unless passing in particular.

Specific Auckland suggestions;

Auckland Harbour Bridge motorway - North & south bound – ALL trucks/buses/trailer and slow moving traffic to be in the 3rd lane from the left.

Dominion Road heading away from the city, through Balmoral lights. You should ban right hand turning traffic off Dominion Road into Wiremu St as this constantly blocks traffic flow, especially rush hour traffic. I see that you have recently taken consultation on the Dominion Rd road widening, etc project. I see this is sometime off being implemented, in the mean time you should extend the no parking times for rush hour through Balmoral Shops from 4.30pm until 7pm until the road widening is implemented.

St Lukes Road travelling away from Western Springs in the direction of Greenlane. Prohibit right hand turning into Taylors Road, Lyon Ave as again this constantly blocks traffic flow, especially rush hour traffic.

Ports of Auckland – all containers should be offloaded and moved to a depot area by rail in South Auckland and ban all but essential truck traffic in the Auckland CBD. Trucks slow traffic and endanger the lives of other drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. Rail should be strongly encouraged NZ wide over trucks.

I hope you take on board the comments above.
